  • What is Omega-3?
    The human body cannot make
    alpha-linolenic acid
    (ALA, omega-3).
    Therefore it is called essential
    fatty acid. `Essential’ in the
    meaning that it is indispensable
to our body function and they
must be supplied through the diet
    for our body daily
    requirement.
    The wonders of Omega-3 were
    only discovered in the 1970s
    when scientists in Denmark
    research on Eskimos.
    Eskimos’ blood plasma
    contains significantly higher
    Omega-3 than the Danes.
    In another research,
    the Japanese generally are
higher than the American in this
aspect too. This was due to the
    fact that both the Japanese
    and the Eskimos consumed
    a lot of fatty seafood
    which contain Omega-3.
    And the Eskimos
    and the Japanese have lower
    incidence of heart disease
    compared to the American and
    the European. Then, many more
    research worldwide followed and
    discovered that Omega-3 is
    more important than that..
    .

    Something New, And Wonderful ...Omega-3
Worry too much about cholesterol and maintaining a healthy heart?
Now you can look forward to enjoy eating eggs without much concern.
    LTK Omega Plus
contains up to 5 times more Omega-3 polyunsaturated
fatty acids and 4 times more Vitamin E.

    So, What It Does …
The many benefits of Omega-3 have been confirmed by many studies all over the world which include; it is reported to have been linked to the reduction of heart disease, hypertension, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, lowering the `bad’ LDL cholesterol, and reduce the risks of some cancers such as breast & colon cancers. It is also important to the development of cells in the brain and retina tissues in the eyes. This is especially important in the early stage development of human being. For example, mother’s milk contains Omega-3 too but not ordinary
milk powder. As the discoveries of the benefits of Omega-3 were relatively new, recently some of the milk powder producers have began adding some Omega-3 into their products.

    Unfortunately ...

Since our body could not synthesize ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) the precursor to all omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA and EPA. Where can we get enough of it for our daily requirement? Unfortunately we do not have enough Omega-3 in our normal daily diet since we do not consume enough cold water fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, herring, trout, sardines and bluefish. Some of the developed countries (such as Canada, UK, Scandinavian countries) recommend daily intake of about 1,000-1,500mg of Omega-3. And other than cold water fish, Omega-3 (ALA) is also found in the plant source which we do not consume sufficiently such as the soy bean, flaxseed, rapeseed, walnuts and algae in the cold climate.

    There is an Alternative...
An LTK Omega Plus egg contains between 200-400mg of Omega-3 due to its special diet designed by MARDI’s scientists. It is up to 5 times more than regular eggs. Two LTK Omega Plus eggs will provide us about 40%-60% of our daily requirement.

In addition, LTK Omega Plus contains up to 4 times more vitamin E (2.5-3.0mg per egg) compared to regular eggs. Vitamin E is a commonly known effective antioxidant.

With continuous improvement from our research and development, LTK Omega Plus is now enhanced with organic selenium and natural caretenoids too! We do not use synthetic colouring to enhance the yolk colour.

    Other Wonders of Eggs …

Egg is also a good source of quality protein; it also contains a relative balance of various vitamins (13 types, mainly A, D, E, B1,B2,B6,B12 & folic acid), minerals (mainly iodine, zinc, phosphorus, iron) and good fatty acids (such as monounsaturated and Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids).

It is especially beneficial to the children at growing stage. It is a very balanced kind of staple food for everybody, very nutritious and very affordable.

    What about Cholesterol…?

In the latest (April 21, 1999) major study on egg consumption and risk of cardiovascular disease (CHD) by Harvard University, Boston published in JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) on a sample size of 117,976 men and women for over a period of 8 years in USA concluded that “We found no significant association between egg consumption and risk of total stroke or its subtype. Epidemiologic studies have revealed no clear patterns between blood cholesterol and stroke ...” And further, “Our data suggest that consumption of up to one egg per day is unlikely to have substantial overall impact on the risk of cardiovascular disease among healthy men and women.”

In the same research report also stated that “..individuals vary widely in their responses to dietary cholesterol based on monitoring plasma levels. Prospective cohort studies on the relationship of dietary cholesterol with the risk of CHD have been inconsistent, with a significant association found in some but not in most studies.

” Furthermore, it also mentioned “consumption of eggs instead of rich carbohydrate rich food may raise the high-density lipoprotein (HDL, the good cholesterol)."

    How do we do it?

LTK (Melaka) Sdn Bhd with its 448 acres farm at Durian Tunggal, Malacca has over 20 years of chicken (layer) farming experience. Currently its daily production is over 1 million eggs a day. Of which 150,000 eggs are LTK Omega Plus and another 300,000 regular eggs are exported to Singapore earning foreign exchange for the country.

LTK is the only egg producer in the country licensed by MARDTITECH to produce these special eggs. The hens in LTK are fed with natural nutrients diet such flaxseeds, corn and soybean meal to lay the nutritious eggs which contain so much Omega-3 (no chemical are added to produce these eggs). From years of research conducted at MARDI, the scientists are able to determine the level of Omega-3 in the egg yolk (most nutrients of eggs are in the yolk) with the pre-designed diet program.

    In Short…

To have a healthy heart one has to live a healthy lifestyle on top of healthy and balanced diet. With the discoveries of Omega-3 and its many benefits, we would like to introduce it to as many people as possible. LTK as the producer of these special eggs would like majority of the people to enjoy the special benefits of Omega-3 and the nutrients in eggs. The pricing of the LTK Omega Plus is also deliberately decided on a level were the consumers find it affordable, we must also acknowledge that the production cost of these eggs are higher than the regular ones. Other than material cost, it also involved handling costs as the hens and eggs need to be segregated from the normal flocks.

These LTK Omega Plus eggs come into 2 sizes, medium size is priced at 34 sen
and large size at 36 sen as compared to an ordinary egg which cost about 20-25sen. But considering the benefits of Omega-3 and other nutrients from eggs it is definitely value for money. It comes in the pack of 10 pieces in recyclable PS material (polystyrene).
