LTKM Bhd (7085), an egg producer, said processed glass production could become its number one business in the future following its move to diversify, its senior executives said.
While diversification of business is common to reduce dependence on a single sector, moving into uncharted territory will invariably raise queries. In many instances, when companies moved away from their core business, they ended up getting their fingers burnt.
PETALING JAYA: Companies that rear chicken, called broilers, for their meat generally faced a financial famine in the first quarter, while those that produced eggs had a financial feast.
It was a surprise that broiler companies suffered losses because consumers felt the pinch of high prices for chicken during this period, and feed costs had come off from record levels.....
LTKM Bhd, a poultry company, plans to invest RM15 million to set up a glass processing plant in Klang, Selangor, to diversify its income base. It will use RM3 million of its own cash and borrow the rest.
The plant will make tempered, laminated, double-glazing and security glass. ...
